A few things to know about me
- It is very hard for me to follow rules I don’t comprehend. I can follow rules I disagree with but comprehend. That’s why it’s important for me to know why we’re doing something if we’re working together.
- I am pragmatic; I favor judgement over process. I prefer taking responsibility and acting.
- I have strong opinions on matters I believe I understand well and feel are important.
- As an engineer, I want to fully understand the domain I’m working on.
- I have a passion for automating things; that’s why I love creating CLI tools to ease my everyday developer tasks.
- I value the freedom to experiment immensely.
Some opinions (or why I hate corporate processes)
- I hate process for the sake of process. A process should serve an outcome; if we don’t know what problem the process solves, then we should not introduce it.
- Process is a substitute for trust. If we trust each other to do the job we're supposed to do we don't need a process to ensure that.
- Without responsibility and ownership there’s no motivation, hence no room for growth.
- Programming is a means to an end. The end is usually producing and developing a product, and there are times when the end is just exercising creativity and curiosity.
- Having said the above, I do understand that strict and bureaucratic processes are fundamental and very important for the normal functioning of big organizations, state entities and financial institutions.
